The Kelly Mine near Magdalena in New Mexico USA is perhaps the premier historic mining site in the state. It is also the site of a "boom-town" that sprang up at the end of the 19th century called Kelly New Mexico hosting a population of over 3,000 souls. The hundreds of acres of the Kelly Mine have remained in private ownership and have been open to paid public visits under strict safety and time conditions. The owners of the Kelly Mine wish to express their sincere gratitude to all who have come to this place to enjoy the stunning views and to pick on the tailings piles for Smithsonite and over 30 other minerals. However, after all these wonderful years, the Kelly Mine will be CLOSED to all visitors, effective April 9th 2025 until further notice. Please check this website for updates and news , or to contact the owners. We will be monitoring the property for any trespassing or disregard for this closure. We hope that you will respect this historic Mine and stay away while the owners carry out repairs, upgrades and other improvements on their property. Any tickets or passes that are sold after midnight on April 8th are void and cancelled. Or upgrades to the Kelly will be substantial and lengthy but are way overdue, and so we look forward to seeing you once this beautiful site is opened again.
